The Nordic Council (The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council): Changes to the Helsinki Treaty being considered

The Helsinki Treaty, signed by the 5 Nordic states, underpins Nordic cooperation, inside and outside wider European integration. In light of regional and global changes, the treaty (international agreement) occasionally undergoes amendment.

The summer 2023 Presidium of the Nordic Council has decided to initiate steps towards such amendments. The revisions will likely means changes regarding:

1) Regional security.
2) Defence initiatives.
3) Emergency preparedness.

A working group has been formed, who will report in due course.
