CJEU: Grand Chamber to rule on the failure of Denmark to make individual assessments on revocation of Union citizenship

ISSN: 2004-9641

On Tuesday 5 September 2023, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) will deliver its judgment in Case C-689/21, X v Minister for Integreation and Immigration, referred to it from the Eastern High Court (Østre Landsret).

In the case, a dual citizen of Denmark 🇩🇰 and the United States 🇺🇸 is challenging the decision that has been automatically made by the state to strip them of their Danish nationality (and thus, their Union citizenship 🇪🇺), without any individual assessment.

In the earlier Opinion of Advocate General Szpunar delivered in January 2023, he considered the Danish nationality laws on this specific issue to be contrary to Article 20 TFEU and Article 7 of the Charter: https://lnkd.in/eBFXUNhf

More information on the case, Case C-689/21, X v Minister for Integreation and Immigration, can be seen at the following link: https://lnkd.in/e52uXjVa

Analysis to follow once the judgment is delivered.
